Arctic Ensemble

Superb and joyful show with a 360 audience section, some of the best crowd work ever and a finale out of this world.

Bells and Spells

Victoria Thierrée Chaplin

The show we all wanted to love but were fairly disappointed. There were a lot of great moments, costumes and props but many scenes just didn't reach the standards for stage illusions and puppetry.

Sinkkipojat - näytelmä sodasta

The pain of war was just too real and I almost couldn't take it. Glad I stayed for the second half though.

Finally got to see this classic and it was well worth it.

Luukamari-Movie with Live-music

Sivuhenkilöt

After cancelling all the 5 performances at Stoa due to injury, the ensemble decided to put together a screening of the Luukamari performance with added live music and foley. It's always unfortunate when injuries happen (especially for the artist!) and this was one of the best ways to make the most of a terrible situation. I will not rate the show (since I didn't really see the live version yet), but will give 5 thumbs up for the creative solution.

Joitakin keskusteluja merkityksestä

Kansallisteatteri

Three supporting actors wait for their turn to shine in this hilarious yet melancholic play reminiscent of Waiting for Godot with notes of the TV series Lost. The abstract scenario seems almost like the purgatory where you want just one more opportunity to prove that your life had purpose before moving on. Brilliant acting from Elina Knihtilä, Pirjo Lonka and Tommi Korpela joined by dancer Jyrki Karttunen and musician Ringa Manner.

Circa

I'm shifting between profound appreciation for the company's skills and efforts to push circus in this direction and the realization that the challenge might still be too monumental. I'm uncertain if any circus company could execute a performance that would do enough justice to Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring as Pina Bausch did in dance. Perhaps circus hasn't reached that level of artistic expression just yet.

Until the Kingdom Comes

Simen Johan

Immediately you have a feeling that something is not right. The large highly detailed photographs are edited from several shots and locations, and create somewhat menacing cinematic portraits of animals and landscapes. The small parrots casually flock the fighting moose like vultures ready to feast on their souls or to guide the warriors to a more peaceful afterlife.

Neuvostoihmisen loppu

sadsongskomplex:fi

Neuvostoihmisen Loppu based on Svetlana Aleksijevits's Secondhand Time: The Last of the Soviets. What a bold performance with top notch everything from actors and story to lighting and sound. Clever use of the makeshift space and video. Top5 performances of all time for me. Made me grab the book the play is based on.
